Google Ads costs: media budget, management and measurement
Google Ads lets you pay to promote your business in Google advertising placements. But advertising spend is not the only cost. To understand a proposal, separate the ad budget from campaign management and measurement setup.
Advertising spend: money used in the platform
This budget is spent in Google Ads. Charging methods depend on the campaign type. The budget does not automatically include the work of the person preparing and monitoring the campaigns. Ask who owns the account, how payments work and where you can check the spending.
Management: the work behind the campaign
Management can include choosing audiences, preparing ads, selecting relevant searches and adjusting campaigns. For instance, a service business may not want to pay for searches about jobs in its industry. Excluding unsuitable searches helps avoid wasting budget.
The proposal should explain which activities are included, how often campaigns are reviewed and what the reports tell you. A useful report explains business results, rather than only listing impressions and clicks.
Measurement: from a click to a customer
A click means someone opened the page. It does not mean you gained a customer. Track enquiries, relevant enquiries and completed sales separately. Clicking a phone number is not the same as having a conversation or signing a contract.
Hypothetical example: you spend 1,000 lei and receive ten enquiries. Advertising spend per enquiry is 100 lei. If two enquiries become customers, advertising spend per customer is 500 lei. Management fees and other costs are additional. This illustrates a calculation, not a forecast of campaign results.
What should you check before advertising?
The page should explain the offer, work on a phone and have a tested contact form. Otherwise, you may pay for visitors who cannot understand the service or contact you. For an online store, check checkout, delivery options and payment as well.
When does it make sense to continue?
Look at the customers gained and the amount left from sales after costs. Do not increase spending simply because clicks have increased. First check that the measurement is reliable and that enquiries or orders are relevant to the business.
