Consent Mode v2: technical implementation and measurement checks

Consent Mode v2 is not just a checkbox in a cookie plugin. It connects user choice, marketing tags and the way Google receives consent signals. Implementation should be checked technically and kept separate from legal advice.

What needs to exist on the site

  • a clear consent mechanism through a banner or CMP;
  • Google tags that respect the consent state;
  • GA4 and Google Ads configured on the correct accounts;
  • events and conversions tested after accepting and rejecting consent;
  • legal policies updated by the responsible legal owner;
  • verification in Tag Assistant, GA4 DebugView or the relevant tools.

What technical verification means

Technical verification checks whether tags fire and send the right parameters according to the user’s choice. It is not a legal confirmation. Legal compliance, wording and lawful basis should be reviewed by a qualified responsible party.

Why it matters for Ads and analytics

If signals are wrong or missing, GA4 and Google Ads data can be incomplete or misleading. Before judging campaign performance, you need to know whether measurement is working.

What not to do

Do not copy settings from another site without checking the current accounts, tags, domain and banner. Do not assume that installing a plugin completes the whole flow. Do not change legal policies without proper review.

Where it fits

Consent Mode belongs to analytics and business intelligence, with direct impact on SEO, Ads and CRO. For a wider visibility audit, see SEO, AEO and GEO.
